Lyle Bolton - Batman: The Animated Series

Formerly a "respected" head of security at Wayne Enterprises, Lyle Bolton was appointed chief of security at Arkham Asylum at the recommendation of Bruce Wayne. 

However, his cruel and abusive treatment of patients led to disciplinary action and dismissal. 

Furious, Bolton vowed revenge—not on the patients, but on those he blamed for Gotham's villainous community: the police, politicians, press, and doctors who failed to permanently eliminate the city's costumed criminals.

After disappearing from public life for six months, Bolton resurfaced as the vigilante "Lock-Up," claiming to be Batman's greatest ally and Gotham’s ultimate jailer. Taking several people hostage, including Mayor Hamilton Hill, Summer Gleeson, and Commissioner Jim Gordon, he intended to execute them.

Defeated by Batman and Robin, Bolton was sent to Arkham Asylum. He happily accepted this, convinced that this was where he belonged—keeping a watchful eye on Arkham’s patients from inside its walls.

Emile Dorian - Batman: The Animated Series

A rogue geneticist and pioneer in DNA splicing, Dr Emile Dorian, developed a fascination with cats. His early experiments caused painful, irreversible mutations, and his creation of the mutagen T-99 further cemented his reputation for animal cruelty. Ostracised by the scientific community, Dorian was forced to leave mainland Gotham and continue his work on a remote island off the coast.

There, he created two human-animal hybrids: Garth, his servant, and Tygrus, whom he regarded as his son and the pinnacle of his research. When Tygrus confessed to feeling lonely, Dorian sought to create the perfect companion for him. Believing cat burglar Selina Kyle to be the ideal match, he sent Garth to kidnap her and transformed her into a human-cat hybrid.

Selina’s abduction drew Batman’s attention. Dorian unleashed Tygrus to hunt the Dark Knight across the island, but when Tygrus discovered that his “father” viewed him merely as a weapon, he turned against Dorian, accidentally setting the lab ablaze. Despite this, Tygrus saved Dorian’s life and handed him over to Batman.

Batman delivered Dorian to the GCPD, and he was later committed to Arkham Asylum.

Modified by Emile Dorian from his former colleague’s research, this version of the Man-Bat formula stripped its victim of free will, turning them into a mindless pawn. 

Dorian used it on Langstrom as part of his revenge scheme against Batman and Catwoman, turning Man-Bat into his puppet.

Following Dr Emile Dorian’s arrest by Batman and the GCPD, his private island remained under police surveillance.

Many officers grew uneasy, believing the supposedly abandoned island was still inhabited by someone—or something—unknown.

They were right. The island was still home to Dorian’s genetic creation, Tygrus.

Meanwhile, Anthony Romulus, seeking a cure for his lycanthropy, broke through the GCPD barricades and entered the island in search of Dorian, unaware that he had been imprisoned. Encountering Tygrus, Romulus persuaded him to help find his “father” in exchange for information about Selina Kyle—Catwoman—Tygrus’s unrequited love.

After an encounter with Batman, Dr Emile Dorian was arrested and sent to Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane. A freak lightning storm later destroyed the wall of his cell, allowing him to escape.

Fueled by revenge against Batman and Catwoman, Dorian targeted his former colleague, Dr Kirk Langstrom, forcibly injecting him with a modified Man-Bat serum.

He then kidnapped Batman and Selina Kyle, intending to perform invasive genetic experiments on them. When Tygrus arrived unexpectedly, Dorian altered his plan—promising his “son” a human body by transferring his mind into Batman’s.

Before the procedure could be completed, Dorian’s lab was attacked by the werewolf Anthony Romulus. As Dorian ordered Man-Bat to defend him, chaos erupted, and a massive fire consumed the facility. Dorian, Tygrus, Langstrom, and Romulus were all reported missing and presumed dead.

Unable to control the transformations caused by Professor Milo’s serum, Anthony Romulus sought help from Dr Emile Dorian, unaware that Dorian had been arrested after an encounter with Batman.

Teaming up with Tygrus, whom he met on Dorian’s former island, Romulus searched for the doctor before his next transformation. However, the two were separated when Tygrus witnessed Man-Bat abducting Selina Kyle from her apartment.

By the time Romulus reached Dorian’s lab, he had fully transformed into his werewolf form. Attacking the scientist, he clashed with both Man-Bat and Tygrus, and their violent struggle sparked a fire that consumed the entire building. All four were presumed dead.
