Hyacinth languished lazily on the bed. He had been lost in the most perfect of dreams and was slightly put out by having them interrupted by the piercing buzzer.
"Coming. Coming," he groaned, pulling on yesterday's crumpled vest and shorts.
He lumbered groggily down the stairs. His eyes were bleary with sleep, his hair dishevelled.
Hyacinth opened the door and was immediately startled by the large meter-long shark plushie that had been shoved into his face by Hooper, Dion, and Pandora.
"Happy birthday!"
"Yes, happy birthday!"
"Make a wish!"
"Thanks... I ..."
Hyacinth yawned deeply.
"Oh, I see we roused you from your slumber."
"And not even with a kiss."
"You can have one if you want?"
"Sure. Let me just put ... this down," Hyacinth said, gesturing to his new shark.
"It's a Blรฅhaj."
Dion beamed.
"It's not," Hooper said.
"It's a replica. We couldn't get you an authentic one. Hope that's alright though?"
"You weren't supposed to tell him that," Pandora hissed, elbowing Hooper sharply in the ribs.
"He's got eyes," Hooper said, massaging his side.
"I love him. Thank you. He's so cuddly. And big."
"Oooh, like father, like Blรฅhaj."
Dion joked, kissing Hyacinth on the lips.
"Now come on. Get changed — we have so much to do and so little time."
