The civilian identity of the Calendar Man, Julian Gregory Day, was sent to Blackgate Prison following his capture by Batman.
Initially declared criminally insane and unfit to stand trial by Dr Harleen Quinzel, Warden Martin Joseph coerced the young intern into reversing her evaluation so Day could be convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. Quinzel agreed in exchange for a permanent position.
After Enigma exposed evidence of Joseph’s corruption, Day was retried and officially found criminally insane. He was transferred from Blackgate to the Potomac Psychiatric Hospital for rehabilitation, though the facility was ill-equipped to manage him.
On July 4th, Day rigged a microwave to explode, killing two people in what staff later described as a “grim parody of an Independence Day fireworks display.”
He escaped in the chaos, prompting widespread panic within the GCPD, who classified him as highly dangerous and in need of a specialised facility capable of handling his complex psychological condition.
